Core Power Yoga

Core Power Yoga is a dynamic and energetic form of Yoga exercise.

It physically and mentally challenges the practitioner to connect to an inner power. Core Power Yoga helps heal, detoxify and rouse the body and mind. This is done through balance and intention. It has produced a vigorous and challenging program, one which blends strength, perspiration and spirituality.

Core Power Yoga acknowledges power at various different levels.

First of all, is gross power. It cultivates physical strength and improves health. Second is the mind power. It is also called the will to focus on the practice.

Third is spiritual power. This is the power behind physical and mental power.

The western style of the Indian Ashtanga Yoga, the term Core Power Yoga was coined by Beryl Bender Birch, himself an Ashtanga Yoga instructor. This style of Yoga was taken to the west by followers of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. He is an acclaimed Yogi and Sanskrit scholar who inspired Western Yogis with his Ashtanga Yoga Style and philosophies.

There are 3 programs in Power Yoga. "Core Power Yoga" has been designed to make the abdominals and back stronger. It includes both abs-focused Vinyasa Power Yoga asanas and alternatives of muscle-toning moves. By unchaining and releasing athletic power the practitioner develops supple strength. There s also emphasis on abs, back, hips and pelvis in this style of Yoga.

Core Power Yoga sessions are performed, like Bikram Yoga, in a heated room. Essentially, they consist of a number of cardiovascular exercises. They are designed to develop strength and suppleness, enhance endurance, perk up one’s concentration, let go of stress and tensions and eliminate toxins through perspiration.

The practice of Core Power Yoga also calls for performing Yoga poses at a quick pace. Some of the asanas are retained for longer than the mandatory 5 breaths. Core Power Yoga helps augment physical stamina and one’s ability to focus on any task for long.
