heat yoga
Heat yoga is a style of yoga which is performed in a room with a very high temperature. Heat yoga was founded by Bikram Choudhary and is also known as Bikram yoga in many parts of the world. Bikram yoga is basically a modification of the original Ashtanga yoga poses, performed in a high temperature. A typical session of Bikram Yoga consists of a total of 26 poses which are modified from the poses of Ashtanga yoga. These poses are performed in a room which is heated to a temperature of 105 °F. The poses are performed in a non stop sequence a total of two times. Once a pose is performed, the practitioner has to hold it for a few seconds before coming back into the resting or the original position. Heat yoga is a very advanced level of yoga and is not recommended for beginners. This kind of yoga is suitable for those advanced or experienced yoga practitioners who are looking to get fit in a short amount of time. A typical yoga session in heat yoga consists of advanced postures like the forward and backward bends, twists, and inversions. These poses are performed at a high speed and the high temperature makes performing of these poses very difficult. The poses and postures are usually followed by a session of Kapalbhatti (Cleansing breath) in which the practitioner breathes heavily in rapid breaths. The benefits of performing Bikram yoga are many. Due to the high temperature, the body becomes more flexible. The blood vessels also dilate due to the heat, causing a surge of blood to the entire body. There is an excessive release of sweat while performing these poses in the high heat and that flushes out the toxins from the body. The various poses of Bikram yoga also work on the internal organs, gently massaging them and allowing larger volumes of blood to be delivered to them. The stretches that you perform in the high heat can allow you to move in ways that you wouldn’t have thought imaginable. The heat can make the body flexible enough for performing these poses. Therefore, even if you feel that your body is not flexible enough, you can perform various postures and poses in heat yoga. The combination of the breath work and the heat in heat yoga can help improve metabolism and can also help in treating cardio vascular conditions. Regular practice of heat yoga can help you lose weight and tone your body in a short period of time.
