ashtanga yoga postures

Ashtanga yoga postures are also known as power yoga poses. This type of yoga has been gaining popularity over the past few years. Ashtanga yoga is very different from traditional yoga which focuses on flexibility, relaxation and deep breathing. Ashtanga yoga postures focus on strength and stamina. Persons doing Ashtanga yoga postures will move from one posture to another very quickly in order to maintain that focus on strength. Keep in mind that Ashtanga yoga postures are more difficult that other yoga postures. These Ashtanga yoga postures are also done as part of a series. This means that the poses are not done in isolation. Since you have to move quickly from one pose to another the focus still remains on strength training. The muscles are also kept in constant use with this quick movement from one posture to another. These kinds of yoga postures are very popular with athletes as they build up stamina and strength. Ashtanga yoga postures are suitable for most people who have a reasonable level of fitness and are used to some kind of physical exertion. If you are new to exercise and yoga, it is not advisable to try out these power yoga postures until you have built up your fitness levels. Remember that even the very basic or beginner yoga postures in Ashtanga yoga are very physically demanding. There are six series of Ashtanga yoga pose. Each of these series focuses on a specific part of the mind and body. You must be proficient in each series before you move onto the next one. Each series prepares you for the next one. If you do decide to attempt these poses, ensure that you do them as part of a class, with an experienced teacher. This is a very fast moving form of yoga and you may put yourself at risk if you attempt these poses by yourself. This is possible due to the intensity and complexity of the poses. The class may start slowly at first and then gather momentum. You will be given a lot of practice and will have a chance to master the poses before you move onto the next set. In this type of yoga, the Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) series of poses is very popular. Ashtanga yoga classes move through standing, balancing, seated, inverted and twisting postures. Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward Facing Dog), Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog) and Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend) are some of the popular asansas in Ashtanga yoga.
