What IsĀ Side-Angle Warrior Two Yoga And Its Benefits
The Virabhadrasana, or Warrior Pose, is named after the famous Indian warrior Virabhadra. This famous warrior is supposed to have been an incarnation of the Shiva, the god of destruction. Although this pose may have been used by warriors in ancient India, it is also an excellent pose to stretch and strengthen the entire body. In fact the present day warrior pose has more to do with health than wrecking havoc.
Side Angle Warrior Two Pose: There are three basic variations of the warrior pose. In this article we tell you how to perform the Side Angle Warrior pose, or the Warrior Two pose as it is more popularly known. You start off the pose by standing in the Tadasana or Mountain Pose. This essentially involves standing straight with your feet and knees together and arms at your side. Inhale deeply while in this pose.
Now exhale and lightly jump up and spread your legs so that your feet are approximately 4 feet apart. Raise your arms so that they are parallel to the floor and stretched out wide as far as possible with your palms facing down. Take care not to hunch up your shoulder. Feel your shoulders stretch.
Turn your left foot to the left and your right foot to the right, so that your feet have a 90 degree angle between them. Your heels should be in line with each other. While exhaling slowly bend your right knee until your right thigh is parallel to the floor. Ensure that your left leg is completely straight. The heel of your left foot should be firmly pressed to the floor to provide support to your body. Keep your body in a symmetrical line. Use your thigh muscles to counteract any tendency to wobble to either side.
Continue stretching your arms as far wide as you can. Also ensure that your torso is straight and not leaning towards the bent knee. Ideally, your pelvis, torso, and head should form a straight line. Gently turn your head to the right and look out over your extended fingers. Maintain this posture for at least 30 seconds. Slowly return to the starting pose and repeat on the other side.
Benefits Of Warrior Two Pose: The warrior two pose strengthens and stretches your entire body from your shoulders, chest, hands, and back right down to your legs and ankles. It also stimulates the abdominal organs and allows the chest to expand freely. It is a good posture for those suffering from sciatica carpal tunnel syndrome, or osteoporosis. It can be used by pregnant women to relieve backaches. This is also an excellent posture to increase your stamina.
