Yoga At Home: Tend To Connect With The Exercise Form More Deeply And Cherish The Impact On Mind And Body

How Can I Learn Yoga At Home

Learning and practicing yoga at home is a good way to experience and enjoy the effect of yoga. When you do yoga in your own home, on your own, you tend to connect with the exercise form more deeply and are able to cherish the impact it has on your mind and body.

Here are a few tips about how you can learn and practice yoga at home:

Learning From The Masters: There are various ways of learning yoga postures on your own – through the internet, books, DVDs. But it’s a better idea to first join a class and learn the basics of yoga from a qualified teacher before you practice on your own. A yoga teacher can also correct you if you do the postures incorrectly. It’s very important to learn and do the postures in a precise way; otherwise it can cause a muscle pull or injury.

Time And Place:
When you begin practicing yoga at home, choose a place and time where nobody will disturb you and you can practice your asanas in peace. You may want to practice yoga in the morning, when you’re fresh and energetic or you could practice in the evening, to refresh you after a hard day’s work. Just make sure that while you practice, the television isn’t blaring in the background, the phone is off the hook and you have a soothing environment at your disposal.

Equipment:
All you need to practice yoga at home is a mat and comfortable clothing. It’s advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing – clothing in which your body can breathe and you can maneuver with ease. You may need props like wooden blocks, cushions and blankets at a later stage while doing complicated poses.

Warming Up: Like all exercise routines, you need to warm up before you try out complicated poses. You can begin with the Surya Namaskar or the Sun Salutations to get into the flow. A combination of postures, Sun Salutations is good for preparing the body for the yoga session.

Begin Slowly: When you begin practicing at home, start with simple postures and practice for a short period of time. Don’t set lofty goals for yourself. Even if you practice for 15 minutes and build it up to 30 minutes or more later, it should be sufficient. Do those poses that you’re comfortable with and gradually add more postures. Remember not to push yourself too hard while attempting postures.

Breathing And Postures:
Don’t forget prananyama or breath control. You also need to hold your postures for a while before moving on to the next one.

Cherish The Practice: When you’re at home, you can enjoy the complete experience by tuning into yourself, paying attention to every move and breathing technique.

Cool Down: It’s very important to do the Corpse pose at the end of the session to cool down.
These are a few tips that can help you practice yoga on your own at home.
