Is It Possible To Reduce Myopia By Doing Yoga Exercises
Yes, yoga can play a vital role in improving your eyesight – whether it’s myopia, certain refractive errors or improvement of vision, there are yoga exercises to strengthen the ocular muscles and overcome weak vision. You can try some of the following eye exercises to reduce myopia.
- You need to look at the rising sun and gaze at it until the rays emerge. It’s important to remember that this exercise should only be done when the sun is rising, and not when it becomes radiant.
- For this exercise, you should sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes. Then, rub your palms together and cover your eyes gently, avoiding any pressure on the eyeballs. No light should pass through and you should experience complete darkness. Practice this exercise for 2-3 minutes.
- Look at the tip of your nose without blinking. Try doing this for as long as you can and then close your eyes gently.
- In this exercise, you need to look on your left shoulder without turning your head. Focus for as long as you can and then close your eyes and relax. Repeat this exercise a few times.
- Here, you need to focus on your third eye, the area between the eyebrows and above the nose, without blinking. Begin by doing this exercise for a short span of time and then over time you’ll able to hold this posture for longer durations.
- This exercise will help you relax your eyes. Lie on your back with your palms toward the ceiling and your legs spread out. Now, slowly close your eyes and breathe deeply into your belly. Continue doing this for a few minutes, before opening your eyes.
- ‘Trataka’ is another yoga technique that helps to improve eyesight. Devised by sages, it is a purification process that cleanses the eyesight and helps the mind to concentrate. In this, you have to sit with your back straight and keep your eyes fixed on an object without blinking. You have to do this till tears start pouring down your face. Remember – this object has to be place about 6 feet from you. You can even stare at a certain point on the wall. Before you begin this exercise, you can roll your eye balls from one corner to another, sideways and up and down. This exercises the eye muscles.
- Throw a ball on the ground and follow every movement as it bounces off. As you follow the movement of the ball, you need to blink after each catch. This exercise helps to form the blinking habit, which reduces eye strain.
