What Is Cobra Pose And How Is It Beneficial
Our back is the most important part of our body. Unfortunately due to the daily chores our back goes through tremendous stress and pressure. This is a result of a busy lifestyle where everyone seems to be on the run and always on the move. In fact we have become so busy that we are unable to devote time to ease the tensions of our back. Yoga is one exercise, which emphasizes that various energies and life forces in the body are all connected to the spinal cord. If the spinal cord is not properly aligned or in shape then it leads to further complications.
Cobra pose is one of the most beneficial poses for your lower back and chest areas. It gets its name from the formation of the pose, which resembles a serpent snake in an upward position. It’s usually a pose done to relieve the tensions of the back. The pose also helps to expand the chest area and reduce stress levels in the body.
It’s very simple to practice the Cobra Pose. Lie down straight on your stomach with your hands beside you. Now exhale slowly and push the lower body in a downward direction. Now begin to inhale and slowly raise your chest and upper body creating an arch formation. Make sure not to lift your pelvis and keep it firmly planted on the floor. Straighten your arms completely and hold on to this position according to your comfort level. Now slowly exhale and return to the starting position, and take a short rest before the next set of this pose.
Please avoid this exercise if you are undergoing acute backache or recovering from a back injury. Those with a history of an abdominal surgery or problems are strongly recommended against the Cobra Pose. Pregnant women are clearly advised not to practice this pose as it puts pressure on the abdominal and pelvic muscles.
Cobra Pose is excellent for flexing your spine and increasing the strength of the back muscles. It also improves the functions of the kidneys and adrenal glands. The pose helps in expanding your chest, shaping your shoulder muscles and giving you firmer buttocks. It helps in the proper functioning of the respiratory and digestive systems. The breathing pattern during the Cobra Pose helps in cutting-down stress levels and reduces fatigue. You can also find an improvement in blood circulation, which helps in keeping you fit and active all day long. Daily practices of the Cobra Pose will definitely make a positive difference in the way you live.
