How Yoga Raises Immune Levels

Does yoga is good for the immune system

Of course, yoga is supposed to be good for the body and for the immune system. A single session of yoga will nourish and energize your body, massage all your organs and pep up your immune system. And all this will mean, a healthier and happier you!

  • Through yoga, you can also cut down on stress, which finally helps you strengthen up your immune system. Yoga also strengthens the lymphatic system and flushes out all the toxins.
  • While yoga doesn’t guarantee that you will never fall sick; doing yoga regularly will ensure that you get well sooner than usual.
  • Stress is a major reason for weakening your immune system. And with today’s workday situations, too much of stress is leading to frequent flu and illnesses. It is believed that stress causes the thymus gland, which is responsible for the immune system, to shrink. And thus, more stress leads to more sickness. Through yoga, you can calm your mind and de-stress your body.
  • Yoga also targets particular organs related to the immune system, which again enhances the disease-fighting system.
  • It is believed that chest-opening postures like upper back bends, massage the thymus gland, which is in the center of the chest. The cobra posture, pigeon posture, bridge posture, bow posture and the boat posture are good for the thymus.
  • Inversions are supposed to be good for the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system produces the immune cells, which finally defend the body against bacteria. The plough positions, headstand, shoulder stand and the legs up the wall posture are beneficial for the flow of the lymph.
  • Hip openers and twists activate the lymph nodes in the armpits and groin as well as the spleen. These organs produce immune cells too. You can practice the prayer twist, seated twist, bound angle and pigeon, among other postures, to keep these organs healthy.
  • It is believed that the lion pose is good for the lymph nodes in the neck and the immune glands of the tonsils. Jal Neti or nasal irrigation is good for flushing out nasal infections.
  • You must also combine your yoga practice with a balanced yogic diet. You must eat a lot of whole grains, vegetables, legumes and fruits. You should also cut down on sugar, alcohol and caffeine, which aren’t too good for the immune system.

Drink lots of water and keep yourself hydrated to keep your immune system in a good shape!
