How To Do Downward Facing Dog Pose
Downward Facing Dog is one of the most popular Yoga positions. What makes it such so popular Yoga-goers is that this posture energizes the brain and recharges the central nervous system. One can experience better alertness, concentration and memory levels after performing the downward facing dog pose. It’s also an excellent stretching exercise and helps in flexing the back, expanding the chest and developing the upper body structure.
It’s simple to practice this pose. Begin by going down on your knees with your hands on the floor placed under the shoulders. Next spread your fingers wide and place the knees under the hips. Make sure your spine is in an upright position.
Now exhale and slowly lift your hips towards the ceiling, forming an upturned V-shape. Position the arms straight with the shoulders wide and relaxed. Slowly lift your heels bending forwards off the floor. Make sure that your hands and feet remain stationed hip-width apart. If you find your hamstrings a little too tight, simply bend your knees slightly while focusing more on stretching your back.
Avoid applying pressure on your wrists and hands while pushing your hips in an upward position. Keep your head in a steady and balanced position as any movement could cause undue pressure on the neck muscles.
Keep moving your hips up and back, while maintaining a steady breath pattern as this forms an essential part of any Yoga pose. It’s this breathing pattern, which creates a positive flow of energy throughout the body. Always remember to concentrate on keeping a rhythmic breathing pattern as it helps in better coordination of the body to practice this pose.
