Basic Yoga Poses For All
There are quite a few
basic yoga positions that must be practiced if you wish to keep your fitness. In fact, keeping with your age and current fitness levels you will have do more than just Yoga poses to maintain optimum fitness levels. You will also have to practise a few Pranayamas (breathing exercises), Kriyas (cleansing techniques) and adhere to a Yoga diet. You should practise all the following asanas (Yoga poses) in these positions:
- Standing
- Sitting
- Supine
- Inverted
- Balancing
You will also have to practice all the following Pranayamas (breathing exercises) and Kriyas (Cleansing techniques):
- Kapalabhatti (Skull cleansing)
- Ujjayi (Ocean breath)
- Anuloma-Viloma (Alternate Nostril Breathing)
- Brahmari (Bee breath)
- Sutra Neti (Cleansing Nasal passages with rubber catheter)
- Jala Neti (Cleansing Nasal passages with water)
- Vaman Dhauti (Cleansing stomach by vomiting water on empty stomach)
Yogic Diet
Above all, it is imperative that you adhere to a Yogic diet. This means a Sattvic (light and predominantly vegetarian) diet with lots of green leafy vegetables, sprouts, seasonal fruits and fresh salads. Please avoid all spicy, fried, fatty foods and junk / fast foods. These will only ruin your health and retard your progress in life. However, if you have a pure and light vegetarian diet and observe a regular routine – early to bed and early to rise, no late nights – you will most certainly get the desired health and fitness benefits sooner than later. After all, Yoga is an experiential science, and the best way to derive optimum benefits is to start practising at once and continue till such time as you are completely satisfied.
If you insist on practicing asanas (Yoga poses), Pranayamas (breathing exercises) and Kriyas (Cleansing techniques) on a regular basis and abide by a Yogic diet, your health is bound to perk up over a period of time. Yoga is gaining in popularity all over the world, largely on account of its ability to deliver results. These results, unlike other fitness programs are not confined only to the body but extend to the mental and emotional spheres, as well. Yoga is the only holistic, alternative therapy whose benefits permeate all levels of a human being. This is, primarily, why it is considered a holistic science. The practice of relaxation and meditation techniques, in particular, helps rejuvenate and revitalize the body in such a way that, even after a grueling Yoga session, you emerge feeling relaxed and rested. This is because all Yoga sessions end with deep relaxation practices.
