Walking and health have long been associated as going hand in hand on account of the numerous benefits that walking is known to provide to the body and well as ones mental state. Walking is one of the simples and easiest to practice low impact cardiovascular exercises which can be practiced by almost anyone and does not require any specialized training or expensive gear. In fact it is known to be one of the most natural forms of exercises for the body  that helps raise ones health and fitness levels. Some of the benefits of regular walking for health include a reduction in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol) and instead an increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol).   Some of the other walking health facts are that it is known to reduce ones blood pressure which is highly beneficial to those who suffer from high blood pressure and the related symptoms. Walking health benefits also include the fact that it is known to help people stay strong and fit, improve their mood and also makes them less prone to or helps them manage type 2 diabetes. Many people also take up walking for health reasons as a regular form of exercise to burn calories and thereby lose weight or maintain a desirable body weight. However one should keep in mind that before taking up walking or any other form of exercise one should consult their doctor to check if any precautions need to be taken or if the exercise is safe for them to follow. Before starting to walk on a regular basis one should also prepare themselves in terms of walking gear, warm ups etc so as to prevent injuries such as muscle pain or blisters on ones feet which may occur on account of lack of a warm up or improper walking shoes. Walking for mental health benefits is also quite viable as it helps one overcome depression, improves the overall mood and also helps one fight against stress by promoting relaxation. In fact walking as an exercise is also practiced by many people who suffer from insomnia as it is known to help them overcome their sleepless nights. Nutrition also plays an important role when one is walking for fitness and health reasons. Along with walking regularly one should also modify ones diet to include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and fresh drinking water as they are full of essential vitamins, minerals and anti oxidants required by the body for optimum functioning.
