Walking is the easiest forms of exercise that can be performed by almost anybody. It also does not require any specialized equipment other than a good pair of shoes. Walking can be done on most terrains and in any type of weather. It is an exercise that even elderly individuals can perform. Men’s walking shoes may not be very different from women’s walking shoes, but you need to be aware of the variations.
Other than being the most natural exercise one can perform, walking has certain other health benefits as well. While walking, the calf muscles pump blood to the heart, leading to greater cardiovascular exercise, higher oxygen requirement and improved blood flow. The increase in oxygen requirement provides exercise for the heart. This allows for good blood circulation for the heart on a long-term basis. It also reduces the risk of heart attack. Once an individual adopts daily walking as a habit, other benefits are obtained. Lower back aches subside, bowel movements become more regular and the risks of muscles sprains and catches are reduced. The body does not tire easily and is better able to fight against various ailments. Walking also enhances the posture. Studies have also highlighted the significant effect walking has on the psychological state of a person. Daily walking helps to alleviate depression, anxiety, tension and also enhances the mood.
Walking with the right type of shoes is important. Shoes that are not suited for walking or those that are uncomfortable can pose the risk of injury. Keep in mind the size and shape of the foot while buying shoes. There are also differences between women’s walking shoes and men’s walking shoes. The heels are narrower in women and the cartilages are also smaller. Men’s walking shoes have wider soles. It is advisable to shop for walking shoes later in the day. This is because by evening the feet tend to swell slightly due to exertion. Measuring your feet accurately will also help you select the right size of shoe. For those with wide feet, there are special men’s wide walking shoes available. The shoes must fit snugly and must not be too tight at the sides. There must be at least half an inch of space between the end of the shoe and the longest toe. There are different shoes available for different terrains. For hiking, more rugged footwear is necessary due to the unevenness of the terrain. Those into racing may benefit from wearing light and flexible shoes. In hot weather, one can wear walking sandals. There are also men's waterproof walking shoes available which are ideal for rainy weather.
