A fast-paced stroll around your block for about 30 minutes every day is usually good enough to keep you fit. However, if you are planning on losing weight by walking, you may need to walk a little more often. The amount of calories walking helps you to burn are similar to other cardiovascular exercises. Since walking increases heart rate, it is considered an excellent aerobic exercise. Once you become adept to walking, for losing weight, you could even try losing weight by jogging at least every alternate day. Losing weight by walking is also time saving as even if you are extremely busy, you can work in small walks into your schedule. For instance, when you arrive at work, park your car a few blocks away from your office and have a brisk 10-minute walk. This will then be repeated when you are finished with work and are going home.
After you come home, you can grab your pet, or ask your partner to accompany you on a 20-minute walk to the supermarket or a park or any other place you like. This way, you will be clubbing two things together and will make time for your fitness as well. However, it is important to understand what speed is appropriate for you while you plan on losing weight by walking. If you have been completely sedentary for some time, it is likely that the first few days of walking may cause a lot of discomfort, but after the first week, the discomfort should reduce significantly.
