Yoga Way To Get Relief Of Anxiety

A person experiences anxiety and fear when the emotional state is not very healthy and the person is constantly under stress and pressure of some sort. The symptoms for anxiety could be several such as increased heart rate, dry mouth, fast shallow breathing and excessive sweating, diarrhea, palpitations, phobias and fainting. It may also lead to panic attacks, obsessive and compulsive disorder or OCD and so on. Yoga helps a lot to get rid of fears and treat anxiety as well as it works on deep levels on both your mind and body. The yoga activities like Dhyana or meditation, pranayama or breathing exercises and the yoga asanas or postures exercise and stimulate your mind and body on a very deep level and promote a sense of well being and calm.

  • Dhyana or meditation – This greatly helps to calm you down because when you concentrate on a particular object like the flame of a candle or when you focus on your breathing, all your attention is concentrated on it and you forget everything else for the time being. You also start breathing slowly and deeply this has a positive impact on your body. Your body sends calm and peaceful signals to your brain that help you feel better and thus deal with anxiety and fear. Dhyana or meditation also helps to clear your mind, improve your concentration, enhances inner wisdom, promotes peace and tranquility.
  • Pranayama or Breathing Exercises – These are various types of breathing exercises that range from slow deep breathing to fast rapid breathing intense exercises. All of these have different effects on your mind and body. These exercises help to clear your air passages when you breathe fast as in the Kapalbhati or the breath of fire. They increase your lung capacity when you practice exercises like the Ujjayi or the loud breathing, and   improve and correct your breathing with other breathing techniques.
  • Yoga Asanas or Postures – These stretch and tone your body like no other exercise does. These are a systematic set of exercises that put gentle and controlled pressure on various glands and other parts of your body. This helps to stimulate them and regulate the hormone production thus balancing it. This also releases the hormone called endorphin in your body that is responsible to make you feel good. Besides certain yoga asanas or postures need a lot of focus, concentration and balance, as they are advanced and difficult than the others for example the Shirshasana or the headstand. When a person does these it makes them feel more confident about themselves and thus helps to treat anxiety and fear.
