Yoga Help To Cope And Curb With Depression

Effective Yoga Exercises For Severe Depression

Depression is a dark and disturbing state of mind. It is triggered by an onslaught of negative emotions and stressors. Depression brings on feelings of extreme helplessness and desolation. It takes a heavy toll on both your mind and body.

Depression can be curbed through constant medication. While this course of treatment curbs the depression, it doesn’t cure it. It results in several side effects along with lifelong dependency. If you break your medication routine, the symptoms will be back. Yoga can help you cope and curb depression. If you feel the blues coming on, try one of the following yoga postures to get your spirits back up:

Sun Salutations – This is a sequence of twelve basic yoga postures performed in a seamless flow. Sun Salutations stimulates the central nervous system. There is an immediate boost in oxygen and blood supply in the body. This has a significant and positive impact on emotions. A few cycles are enough to calm you down and to give you that vital boost of energy and a sense of well being.

Fish Pose – Is very effective in relieving depression and anxiety. This pose helps to calm and relax both mind and body. When experiencing acute stress and depression, most people feel an uncomfortable pressure in the chest. By doing the fish pose you can open up the chest and ease this pressure. In addition there is boost in oxygen supply to all the vital organs in the body, leading to a boost in energy and positivity. The fish pose also unravels physical tension on the neck, shoulders and lower back.

Seated Forward Bends – This pose is very effective in calming a stressed and pressurized mind, infusing it with a sense of peace and well being. By practicing this posture you can effectively ease physical tension in the back and shoulders and relieve conditions brought on by depression – headaches, high blood pressure, insomnia, fatigue, etc.

Corpse Pose – The corpse pose is one of the most relaxing yoga postures. It may seem simple but there is technique to doing it right. Lie down motionless on your back. Clear your mind of all extraneous thoughts and focus on your breathing. You will feel the tension, anxiety and stress float away. The corpse pose is the perfect way to unwind after a long exercise session, and after a long day.

Regular practice will help make the mind and body stronger. You will be able to fight off depression and to handle the situation with composure.
