Running And Brain Activity

Plenty of studies have indicated that running regularly is found to have plenty of benefits for one’s brains. Curiously running is found to have many health benefits that help in boosting one’s brain power. Some neuroscientists have shown that when a person runs, it helps in stimulating their brains such that they grow fresh grey matter. This has been found to have a profound effect on one’s mental ability. This skill is vital for cognitive and learning tasks and help in recalling memories. The new brain cells that are formed are somehow linked to recollection and also the formation of new memories. Studies have thus indicated that, just like running aerobic exercises and also jogging have a great impact on one’s memory. This helps in slowing down any deterioration of a person’s mental ability which comes along with the getting old. There is a growing body of research that suggests that running and exercising helps in keeping one brain healthy and at the same time growing fresh with new brain cells.
Some studies have indicated that neurogenesis is considerably reduced among those people suffering from depression. However, if they exercise regularly then this can help in encouraging the production and growth of the new brain cells. There is no clear cut explanation for why exercise and running helps in triggering the production of grey matter. Some theories however link this to an increase in the flow of blood or maybe even an increase in the hormone levels which are being released during the course of an exercise routine. It has been found also that exercise and running helps in reducing a person’s stress levels and thus leaves a person feeling happier and more relaxed. This is primarily due to the action of the release of a hormone that is called as cortisol. Stress inhibits the production of new brain cells. Thus for runners, taking this activity up on a regular basis has a positive effect not only on one’s cardiovascular activity but also on their brain cells. Exercise, running and swimming all have a host of benefits that are not always visible. Besides the obvious weight loss benefits and reduction in stress levels, the improvement on one’s brain is said to be great. One should also ensure at the same time that one gets adequate amount of rest, food and sleep to keep the body healthy. Besides this a very important factor is to keep the body well hydrated.
