Run Faster Speed Training Program

Speed is what differentiates an average athlete from a good athlete. Speed is important for all athletes in any sport. To be able to run faster, a speed training program is essential. A run faster program also helps to build overall fitness of a runner. It focuses on different aspects of running and also isolates and works on the muscles involved in it. This can considerably boost one’s running time.

Run Faster Program

A running drill to improve speed may consist of exaggerated skipping. This involves swinging the arm opposite to the lifted leg and lifting each knee as high as is comfortable. The arm swings helps to bring about a higher lift. One can perform this skipping motion for 100 yards and back. Basketball slides are also effective in improving speed. This is essentially sideways skipping without bending the knees. To do this, first slide using your left leg. Bring your right leg to join the left leg and land on the right foot. Repeat the sliding movement. This may be done for 100 yards and back. Another beneficial exercise for speed is to stretch the arms out in front and walk slowly, lifting the legs towards the hands as high as possible. The knees and the trunk must be kept straight. You may also perform stiff legged running which involves rising on the toes with the arms at 90 degrees. The knees must be locked. Run as fast as possible for 100 yards. Many trainers also recommend speed ladders to boost speed. These resemble rope ladders and are kept flat on the ground. One can perform different exercises with the ladder such as hopping around the squares. Cones can also be used in a run faster program. These can be placed in a straight line with a couple of years between them. The runner can practice by running towards the first cone to the middle cone. He can then move back to the first cone again.

Run A Faster Mile Program

It is necessary to do a warm-up before starting the speed drill. You may jog or perform stretches to get the muscles warmed up. A run a faster mile program should also focus on enhancing flexibility. A flexible runner will be able to cover a greater distance with each step without putting in extra effort. Coordination is also important in speed development. It takes a high level of coordination to be able to move the limbs at blazing fast speeds. This is why if you wish to run faster any program should include activities to improve focus and concentration like yoga.
