When my colleague unnerves me with his silly mistakes, I take three deep breaths, a calming solution that I learnt in the yoga class. The tide of my temper suddenly ebbs and I become the normal person again. Blood pressure down, heart rate normal – and me a very nice person!
All this because of yoga!
That’s not all; I have learnt how to stretch my hands, my neck, and my torso – so that blood flows well and my head clears. These are simple and even easy to do exercises in office.
Over the years my tension levels are down, performance much higher – hey I might even be boss in time.
There is a simple asana that I have been taught to perform by my teacher that really helps me feel better. My hands are folded behind my back in a simple “namaste†with palms joining each other. Soon my posture feels straighter and the lower back stress vanishes.
Of course my favorite is the five minute meditation. On my seat I close my eyes and connect to my inner self. The working day floats by, while I am in my internal world. When I open my eyes, voilà, it’s the new me, ready to work and so much nicer to everyone. It does take a little bit of time and practice to get used to it, but the efforts are worth it. My colleagues keep telling me that I am so much better to work with, boss hints about promotion – and I know this is the benefit I have reaped from my daily Yoga class. A relaxed worker actually makes a better one! I would recommend that all offices start yoga classes; it would make for a happier professional world.
