What Is Thai Yoga Massage Techniques

The sedentary lifestyle that we are now so used to, has taken a toll on our postures, thereby leaving a lot of people complaining of tension in their backs and shoulders. To relieve this tension, you could go in for a session of Thai yoga massage.

Even many centuries ago, our ancestors had perhaps foreseen this coming. They created an intensive therapy based on the principles of Ayurveda and yoga. About 2,500 years ago, a celebrated doctor called Jivaka Kumar Baccha created the healing technique of Thai yoga massage. He is famed to have treated the Buddha himself.

The technique of Thai yoga massage draws heavily from Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda, the human body is made up of natural elements. There are mainly three combinations of natural materials that make up the human body—kapha: a combination of earth and water, vata: a combination of air and ether, and pitta: a combination of fire and water. Different people have different constitutions and therefore, have different treatments for their ailments.

This ancient Thai – Yogic technique was first observed in the Thai temples. Also known as Nuad Boran, this technique is one where the recipient is guided through the postures of yoga. These postures are made to channelize the body energy through pressure points that lie on the channels called sen. Thai yoga massage is different for each body constitution. People with a Vata constitution are given a slow massage which is very gentle. People with Pitta constitution are given a relaxing massage that is not very vigorous. Those with Kapha constitution receive a massage that uplifts and energizes them. Each massage intends to activate one or both the elements of the constitution.

The palming and the thumbing actions that are performed in this technique help relieve muscular tension. They also help in improving circulation, thereby boosting the body’s immunity and restoring depleted energy.

Be sure to wear comfortable and light clothing when you do go for a session of Thai yoga. This technique requires you to wear clothes that are comfortable and allow easy flexibility, since you will be stretching your body and flexing your muscles.

A long session with a Thai yoga massage therapist will leave you feeling invigorated and rejuvenated and you will in all likelihood, forget completely about the soreness in your back and shoulder muscles. Repeated sessions of Thai yoga will help take care of muscular tension for good.
