White Spots On Baby: Home Remedies For Milk Spots On Newborn

There are some white spots on face and body of my one year old baby, how to remove it?

Firstly, it is important to identify the cause of these white spots. Depending on the causative factors, the correct treatment can then be administered to the infant. It is advisable to consult your pediatrician in order to properly diagnose the condition.

Causes Of White Spots On Baby

There could be various reasons behind the development of white spots on the face and body of an infant. Dry skin often results in white spots and patches on the skin. Cold and dry weather could be the cause of this condition. The dry patches of skin may even itch and flake, causing discomfort to the child. Keeping the baby’s skin well moisturized at all times will help to reduce dryness. In some cases, excessive sweating can also cause white spots on the skin. Changing the baby’s clothes regularly and keeping him cool will help to reduce sweating and keep the child comfortable. Milk spots, also called milia, commonly develop on the skin of babies and children. These spots are benign cysts that contain keratin. They generally occur around the area of the mouth or beneath the surface of the skin. They may also appear near the eyes, forehead, nose and even around the genital area. These spots are very common in babies, but can also appear at any age. Milk spots may often be mistaken for other conditions and also cannot be identified so easily. These spots tend to disappear without any treatment in about a couple of weeks. The exact cause of milk spots is uncertain. However, use of harsh soaps and lotions is thought to be a possible cause. Heat from hot showers or sun exposure may also lead to the appearance of milk spots. Fungal infections are another cause of white spots on the skin.

Tips To Get Rid Of Milk Spots

One way of getting rid of milk spots is to sponge the skin with a wash cloth soaked in warm water. Repeated use of this remedy can cause the spots to soften, and eventually disappear in a week’s time. In case of fungal infections, aloe lotion may be applied to the affected areas. This will help to treat the infection and lighten the spots. An oatmeal bath also works well to keep the baby’s skin healthy and free from fungal infection. Ground oats may be mixed with warm water and added to the baby’s bath. Have the infant soak in the bath for about fifteen minutes and then bathe him normally. This may be done once daily to treat the fungal infection.
