By Patricia | August 17, 2009

Lot of Water got into one of my ears as I was rinsing the shampoo out, now I hardly hear out of both ears, what should I do to unclog my ears ?

If the water has been in your ear for more than a week, it would be best if you went to a specialist. Usually, if water has not been removed from the ear for that long, it settles down in the inner ear, and can cause damage. If you are already facing hearing problems, it means the water has reached a deep level. If that’s the case, normal methods may not be able to help you because you may need medical help like antibiotics and special solution to dry the water. It is imperative that you get medical attention as soon as possible, since if you don’t get the water out, the moist conditions in your ears can result in painful bacterial infections.

Methods To Drain Out Water From Ear

One of the ways to drain the water out is by tilting your head and hopping on one leg about 10 times, and then repeating with the other ear. You can also tilt the head and yawn to get the water out of the ear. Moving your jaw enables the air to move behind the water and drain it. You can also chew a piece of gum and let the pressure of air push out the water and drain it. Also, tilting the head would make the water point in the right direction, and drains it out of the ear. You can also try and dry the water with a hairdryer. Set the hairdryer on the lowest setting and keeping it a few feet away from you, blow it over the ear. Repeat with the other ear. The warm air of the dryer will dry out the water lodged in your ears. But you must make sure the setting is on low and dryer away from your ear to avoid burning.

There are some other remedies that will not only help you drain the water but will also fight any likely bacterial infection as well. An alcohol and vinegar mix is one such remedy. Mix alcohol and vinegar in equal amounts, put it in a dropper, and instill in your ears. Alcohol will dry the water from your ear canal and vinegar will combat the bacteria. This remedy should bring you relief in as little as five minutes. Another remedy can be made by mixing three to four drops of apple cider and water each and instilling in your ears. However, to avoid such a situation again, after every shower you must clean your ears and drain out any water from there with the help of corners of your towel.
