Viral fever is one of the most common illness that majority of us face. It is a temporary condition and generally lasts for 3 to 7 days but if proper rest and precautions are not taken, it can lead to adverse effects. Viral fever is basically caused due to viral infection that enters into your body either through intake of water or food that is contaminated or through direct contact with a person suffering from the fever. In simple terms, any fever as a result of viral infection is a viral fever. In this case the body temperature becomes high. It could be moderately high or very high. Common symptoms for viral fever are shivering, a running nose, cough, body ache, headache, skin rash and irritability. Viral fever can be treated immediately but if the fever persists for long, doctor’s consultation is advised as it may lead to complications.

Home Remedies For Viral Fever

There are quite a few home remedies for viral fever. At such times it usually becomes difficult to consume food as your mouth loses its taste but proper intake of food is extremely essential. You can have soup, juice, rice with lentils and so on. Avoid outside food and fried food. To bring down your fever, soak a hand towel into cold water, squeeze out the water, turn it into a pad and keep it on your forehead till it turns warm. Repeat this 4 to 5 times and follow the procedure on your chest too. Then wipe off your hands and feet with the same towel. In this way the heat from your body is being removed out which helps to bring the body temperature down. Gargling with salt water is an effective way to soothe your throat. Also, a tablespoon of ginger juice with honey is an easy way to curb your cough. You can take a hot water steam with a vaporizer mixed in it to stop your running nose. However, after you do that make sure your not sitting underneath the fan or in an air conditioned room. Every time you sneeze or cough, make sure you use a handkerchief to cover your mouth and also to keep it away from others. You tend to become very weak during this phase and even if the fever goes, the weakness might stay for a few more days. Hence, sufficient amount of rest is mandatory even after the fever goes down as it may result in a relapse too.
