Vaginal Odor Remedies: Causes Of Vaginal Odor And Natural Cures

Every woman has her own distinct vaginal odor and it is not something to be worried about. If, however, you feel that the odor is particularly pungent it could be caused by a lack of personal hygiene. Washing the vaginal area periodically, keeping the hair trimmed and the region dry, are probably enough to keep the odor at bay. And yet you must not overdo the washing as this may deplete the acidity and vaginal flora that is necessary for the vagina to fight infections. A depletion of the protective bacteria in the vagina may lead to a proliferation of harmful bacteria and cause infections.

Vaginal Odor Causes

Some of the causes of vaginal odor are excessive washing, tight underwear, anti-bacterial soap, scented creams, lotions, douches and body washes. These can lead to vaginal infections or yeast infections which can be accentuated by certain kinds of contraceptives, a foreign body inserted into the vagina, vaginal and anal intercourse in the same session and so on. If you think the odor is particularly pungent and has a fishy smell, accompanied by a grayish white discharge, it would be advisable to consult a doctor as soon as possible as you may have contracted a bacterial infection. It could also be a sign of Bacterial Vaginosis, genital herpes, gonorrhea, an inflammation of the pelvis, vaginitis, yeast infections or even cervical cancer.

Natural Remedies For Vaginal Cure

If not it would do good to wear loose undergarments, especially boxer shorts when sleeping to allow the free circulation of air. Use cotton panties and change your tampons or sanitary napkins regularly. If you are sexually active, it would do good to use a condom to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and to urinate immediately after intercourse as this prevents bacteria from going up the bladder and releases it from the body. You can also use a vinegar based douche on the area for which you can mix a spoon of vinegar per quart of warm water and use it once or twice a day. A mixture of tea tree oil and water in the same ratio will also help battle the odor. You may also have a bath in warm water but remember to avoid using soap: anti bacterial or otherwise, on the genital area. It is also important to consume a healthy high protein diet to which you can add yogurt in case your infection is bacterial. Avoid food products such as cheese, Chinese soy sauce, beer, sweet chocolate, and sugar.
