Causes & Treatment of Vaginal Discharge With Fishy Odor During Pregnancy

By Patricia | September 30, 2009

Vaginal discharge is a rather common problem that almost every woman will face at one point in her life or another. The primary unction of the vagina is to provide a route from the outside of your vagina to the uterus and other organs of the internal reproductive system. The vagina fights off infections with the help of its acidic, pH nature that is caused by the presence of good bacteria produced by the body. Even when it is completely healthy, you may sometimes notice some amount of vaginal discharge. Glands present in the vagina and cervix produce small amounts of fluid that flow out of the vagina and wash away some of the old, dead cells that tend to line the vagina. The discharge also helps keep the vagina well lubricated. Normal vaginal discharge does not have any kind of fishy odor nor does it have any prominent coloration. Some factors that may interfere with the normal appearance, consistency and odor of the discharge include emotional stress, pregnancy, menstruation, breast feeding, ovulation and sexual excitement.

Vaginal Discharge Treatment

One of the most successful methods of dealing with vaginal discharge is to use unscented panty liners. They are compact versions of the feminine pads generally worn by women during their menstrual cycle and are specifically designed to absorb any discharge that causes unpleasant fishy odors during the cycle. While a lot of people are of the belief that using the scented variety may mask the foul odor, they generally tend to heighten its potency. If you are constantly conscious of the vaginal discharge, try washing the area more frequently while also switching to a cleansing product that do not have any fragrance.

Frequent Urination Causes

A problem of frequent urination is also a very common problem, but could also be a symptom for a more serious and complex medical issue such as diabetes. Ideally, before trying out some home remedies to fix the problem, try having a few medical tests done through a licensed doctor to identify the root cause of the problem. Drinking large amounts of cranberry juice throughout the course of the day will prove to be extremely helpful as it prevents as well as halts any further development of infection spreading in the urinary tract. There is also a possibility that you suffer from a urinary tract infection as the pain caused by these ailments during urination often causes people to avoid emptying their whole bladder in one go.
