Causes, Symptoms and Treatment for Tooth Abscess

According to a group of medical experts, the biggest concern about the use of antibiotics for tooth abscess is its inability to go through the tooth. They believe that the antibiotics are too large to travel along with the blood through small blood vessels that service the tooth. They are of the opinion that this is the primary reason for the average success rate of antibiotics used for tooth abscess. There is also the possibility of the abscess occurring again within approximately a year. To put it differently, once the tooth abscess embeds itself in the tooth, it can spread if not treated on time.

Treatments

Of the many home remedies available for treating tooth abscess, one of the most popular is to hold and swish salt water in the mouth for around 10 minutes at regular intervals. Another equally effective home treatment is to pack the afflicted area with used-chilled tea bags for about 20 minutes every alternate hour. Whilst this treatment does not work equally well for every individual, folk remedy believer’s claim that in some cases it is known to be so effective that it actually has managed to disperse the pus in the tooth. Nevertheless, many people who have used the remedy claim that it relieves the pain and uneasiness felt in the area. You can also keep sipping cold liquids such as tea without milk which can help to assist with the healing process. One of the most effective substances that can be used is the oil of the tea tree which has natural properties that would sanitize the tooth as well as provide relief from the pain and discomfort. A toothpaste extract of the tea tree oil is just as effective. Another old and trusted home remedy that can be used to gain relief from the pain and thereby reduce any swelling, is to gently daub the affected tooth with clove oil or alternatively place a piece of clove tightly between the affected tooth and one in front of it. Studies have shown that cloves are very effective in relieving any ailments related to gums and teeth. Toothpastes are also available that use extracts of clove oil which are equally effective.

Another home based alternative that can be tried is to make a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water in equal measure. Rinsing your mouth with this mixture will prove extremely beneficial as the mixture helps in thoroughly cleaning the surface of the tooth and will also sanitize and minor infection on the surface. Be sure to rinse your mouth with some warm salt water after using the mixture.
