Signs Of Tonsillitis
The tonsils, a pair of small glands which lie on either side of the throat sometimes get enlarged. This acute inflammation is known as tonsillitis. When the condition is chronic, the tonsils get severely enlarged and the person may suffer several attacks of infection.
The symptoms are many and include high fever, sore and dry throat, general weakness and fatigue as well as body aches and difficulty in swallowing food. You can, in fact, even see the tonsils when you open your mouth. They are deep red in color and can be seen as highly inflamed. If the condition is chronic, you may even see pus coming out of the tonsils.
The glands lie close to the angle of the jaw, almost behind it and can get enlarged and extremely tender. If the condition becomes severe, you might experience pain around the ear region too.
This condition can be caused by either one or several of many causes. It is often seen in cases of strep throat. There are also several viral infections that can cause this condition. Antibiotics cannot be used to treat tonsillitis caused by viral infections. Tonsilitis can also be caused by Plaut-Vincent angina which is a superinfection of treponema and spirochaeta. Tonsillitis can also be the result of an aberrant immune response.
Natural Treatment For Tonsillitis Infections
One of the most commonly used kitchen ingredients; lime juice has proved to be one of the most excellent treatments for tonsillitis. Simply add the freshly squeezed juice of a lime to a glass of warm water. Add to this a spoon of honey and a pinch of salt. Sip this liquid slowly and feel the soreness simply melt away.
Milk too can work miracles in the treatment of tonsillitis. Simply boil a glass of milk and add a pinch each of black pepper and turmeric to it. Drink this milk every night for three days, right before going to bed. If you don’t prefer milk, you can also have carrot, cucumber and beet root juice. These can be taken separately or in a combination.
Steep about two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in boiling water for about an hour. Set it aside to cool then. When it’s still warm, use this solution as a gargle. Repeat this several times a day. This can be really beneficial for tonsillitis.
During the initial stage of the infection, try to fast for a couple of days and have only soups, broths and raw vegetables. Eat solid foods only when the symptoms start subsiding.
