Suntan Treatment

The skin begins to tan the minute it is exposed to the sun. The sunlight is composed of ultra violet rays which, on reaching the skin, penetrate through it, and cause DNA damage. In response to this, the body begins to produce melanin. Melanin is a brown color pigment and is created by body cells called the melanocytes. In some people melanin may not be produced at all or it may be produced in very small quantities. Such people have highly sensitive skin and are easily affected by the sun’s rays. The amount of melanin in the body determines the color of the skin, and the degree to which sun tan occurs. As such, an individual who has been already out in the sun for a long period of time can still remain in out in the sun for more time, without getting a sun burn.
