What are the quick remedies I can use to cure my lips after sun poisoning ?

Dried itchy lips are a common occurrence for many of us, especially during the summers when you have to spend a lot of time in the sun. Blisters begin to form on the lips and the lips become soft, warm and ‘squishy’. This condition is known as sun poisoned lips. Caused by over exposure to the sun, this condition affects those who get sunburns. It is basically an allergic reaction and you can only try to reduce and the inflammation.

here is not much difference between sun burnt skin and sun poisoned lips. The remedies for both are also similar. If you have sun-poisoned lips, there is a good chance that you may be having sun burns on your skin too. Fortunately, there are many home remedies which are both easy to use and economical. These can help you get rid of your sun poisoned lips very quickly. However, if your lips are prone to dryness, chapping, and cracking, you should take extra care.

Sun Poisoning Treatment For Lips

While talking or eating, the dried lips could form deep fissures and start bleeding. Here are some things that can be used for remedying sun poisoned lips.

  • The best and most commonly used remedy for sun poisoned lips is aloe vera. Just pluck an aloe vera leaf, break it and use the sticky fluid coming out of it to apply on your lips. You can simply smear the fluid on the lips and other areas where you have sun burns.
  • Take a soft wash cloth or a handkerchief and soak it in diluted apple cider vinegar. Place this cloth on your lips to soothe the sun poisoned areas.
  • Make a paste of grated cucumber and milk. Apply this on your lips. The cucumber has cooling and astringent properties which soothe the burning sensation and help regain moisture and texture.
  • You can also simply use a piece of cotton soaked in whole raw milk to apply on your lips. This will also soothe and heal your lips.
  • Cod liver oil, a fish oil rich in many essential fatty acids, can be used on the burned area. You can smear it directly or apply with a piece of cotton.
  • Make a paste by mixing honey, margosa leaves, basil and a pinch of turmeric. Use this on your lips to heal and soothe them.

In addition to these remedies, you should also follow a healthy diet to speed up the healing p-process. Make sure that you also drink an adequate amount of water as this helps to flush out your system.
