How to get rid of sore throat and infection ?
A throat infection is characterized by pain, itchiness and discomfort caused by bacteria or viruses. The result is a sore throat which causes difficulty in swallowing. Sore throats are a fairly common condition. The symptoms generally become aggravated in the morning and then ease during the day.
Symptoms Of Throat Infection
Most sore throats are caused by viruses, and as such the infection is not likely to get better with antibiotic treatment. A sore throat is generally the first symptom of a cold. Infections that affect the nasal passage or sinus cavities cause drainage of the mucus in the throat. This results in irritation and discomfort. This can also lead to another infection of the throat. Throat infections may also be caused by bacteria. When the streptococci bacteria affect the throat, the result is inflammation and infection. Swelling, redness and pain result due to strep throat. Diagnosis of this condition involves a strep test or throat culture. With proper treatment the infection subsides in a day. Treatment is essential for strep throat, as if left untreated complications could develop such as glomerulonephritis or rheumatic fever may occur. Glomerulonephritis is a condition that develops in the kidneys, while rheumatic fever can affect the heart. Sore throats that occur with other symptoms such as cough, blocked ears and mucus discharge from the nose are more likely to be viral infections, rather than strep throat. In some cases, throat soreness may also be due to continuous breathing through the mouth. In these cases, there might not be any infection, but the symptoms may be similar. In cold weather too, throat soreness may occur especially in the mornings. Allergic rhinitis is another cause of throat soreness. Throat infections usually cause inflammation of the tissues of the throat and the tonsils.
