Soaking ingrown toenails using juice of a lemon to the effected area. Better still, cut a small piece of lemon and place it on the effected area. Then, use a band-aid or a gauze bandage to cover the lemon and the toe. Let this stay on your toe overnight. This is a highly effective remedy for treating ingrown nails. The lemon juice will soften the skin and help to release the nail. The next morning all you’ll have to do is lift the nail slightly and place a piece of sterilized cotton between the nail and the skin. Keep changing the cotton regularly. The toe will heal in time and you can then stop using the cotton.

If you have a problem with ingrown nails, avoid using high heeled shoes. Use shoes that have a broad front that give your toes ample space. Always wear clean dry socks. Preferably wear only while cotton socks. Cut your toe nails as often as they need to be cut so that they don’t grow too long. We often neglect to cut our toe nails and this is one of the foremost causes of ingrown nails. The ingrown nail becomes worse if the area surrounding it is not cleaned properly. Wash your feet as regularly as possible. And make sure that you never wear wet or even damp socks. If you have the option, walk about in open slippers as much as it is possible. This keeps your feet well aired and free from bacteria and fungus. Be cautious while cutting your nails and ensure that you don’t cut too deep. Make sure you don’t leave jagged edges on your nails either. File the nail in such a way that it does not cut into the skin.
