Puffiness Under Eyes Causes - Eye Bags

Eye bags accumulate over the years and are the result of the stress that the body undergoes over the years. The process is reversible through surgery and is usually caused by staying up late at night, allergies, hormonal imbalances, thyroidism, bending over your head the previous day, or simply as part of the ageing process. Over the years as we age, the skin around the eyes loses its elasticity and gets thinner and thinner. The bags are caused when the underlying fat around the eyes accumulate and bulge. If the swelling resembles pouches rather than mere puffiness, it could be Grave’s disease or related to issues with the kidney and requires immediate medical attention.

Puffiness Under Eyes Treatment And Eye Bags Home Remedies

Make sure to sleep with your head in an elevated position and cut back on your intake of salt. It would be advisable to not drink too many fluids right before going to bed. The fluid that accumulates around the eyes will get re-distributed during the day, but it will take a few hours to do so. Feather pillows might cause bags under the eyes and can be exchanged for something else. Since oil has the tendency to swell the eyes under the skin and cause puffiness, it would be better to avoid any oil based makeup. Makeup must be washed off every night as the residue may fill the open pores and cause bags under the eyes. In order to remedy the problem, you could splash your face with cold water to aid in the circulation of blood in the face. Tap gently in a circular motion over and around your eyes to get the fluid trapped underneath to re-circulate to the rest of the face. Place tea bags on both eyes and leave there for about 20 minutes. This will reduce the puffiness and tighten the pores. A spoon placed in the fridge for about 10 minutes and then put on eyes will smooth away early morning puffiness. Raw potato slices are a popular remedy and you can either cut ¼ of a potato to place over the eyes or alternatively make 5-10 extremely thin slices and place them over and around the eyes. Sprinkle cold water around the eyes before placing the potato over it and keep it on for about 10-15 minutes. If the bags are caused due to a lack of sleep, there is no other remedy than to get long hours of sleep in order to keep the eyes and the body healthy.
