Causes Of Finger Numbness

Finger numbness is the kind of tingling sensation which runs through either or both of the hands or the limbs. Certain conditions of numbness are not harmful, but some conditions of numbness can be quite serious. Finger numbness can be due to a variety of reasons. Some of them include nerve damage, diabetes neuropathy, cervical spondylitis, alcoholic neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, lupus, pernicious anemia or carpal tunnel syndrome. There are some benign conditions which could cause this problem and could also need medical intervention.

Some other reasons include the fingers suffering from frostbite. Hence try keeping your fingers as warm as possible and check if this helps the numbness to go away. At times working at one’s computer for long hours can be a reason that the finger numbness occurs. Try taking breaks in between typing and stretch the fingers to relieve any tightness or cramps that may be developing. One can even get joint inflammation and joint stiffness from sitting and typing too long on the computer. Stress and also changes in temperature could cause the numbness to occur. Keep moving the hands as much as possible to keep the blood flowing to all the fingers and joints.

Finger Numbness Treatment

There are various herbs like ginkgo biloba and also rosemary which are found to very effective in treating this condition. Try pinching the area from time to time. This is also useful. Avoid stress as much as possible. Avoid smoking as it causes an obstruction to the circulation process. Exercises like swimming, walking and jogging could be of great help in improving ones circulation. Lack of oxygen to one’s extremities can cause this problem to occur. Some of the other factors include poor potassium levels, panic attacks, leprosy and multiple sclerosis. Thyme is also found to be useful in treating this problem of finger numbness. Do some massage of the hands and fingers using oil or a cream. Stretch the fingers and pull each finger gently. This will also help to increase circulation to the fingertips. Some treatments like acupressure which involve pressing on various points of the hands can help this condition too. Try alternating putting ones hands in a solution of hot water and then cold water. This can also help to increase circulation. Wear gloves as much as possible when doing any work that involves putting one’s hands in cold water for long periods of time.
