Waking up in the morning with a sudden pain in your neck is a common situation. If you get up with a neck sprain, try and rest your neck as much as possible and avoid any strenuous activities that will stress your neck muscles. Apply ice on the area every two hours and do this for 48 hours as this helps to reduce the inflammation and also eases out the pain. You can put ice cubes in a towel and apply it on the particular area or put crushed ice in a bag and apply it on your neck by placing a towel over it. Slowly, move your head from one side to the other and also tilt it from front to back to help loosen the muscles. Also, make sure that you keep your neck elevated as much as possible by keeping it on pillows when you are resting. You can try this simple exercise at home where you move your shoulders along with movement of your neck by turning it from left to right as it is said to greatly help in curing neck sprain.

A massage therapy can relax the pain and help you to feel better. It is greatly helpful in prevention of scar tissue by enabling the fluids to move around. Try massaging the area by applying pressure gently but it is suggested that you wait till the pain subsides a bit to avoid any further complications. It is advised that eating pineapple helps in treating neck pains as it contains an enzyme called bromelain but in case you are allergic to pineapples then do not eat it. If at all you feel the pain is a lot do not do these exercises as it may worsen the condition.
