Foods that can be added to the diet include fruits, vegetables and lean sources of protein. You can also opt for other treatment alternatives like enemas and colonic irrigation which can be used to clean the colon especially if it is lined with feces. Do bear in mind, though, that a laxative should only be used to cleanse the bowels as a temporary alternative, as they tend to produce many serious repercussions.

If you notice that the odor of your stools is extremely unpleasant, there is a possibility that it may be connected with specific underlying medical disorders. In your particular case the cause of the foul smelling stools could probably be worm infestation in the gut or rectal ulcers. The metallic smell that you are experiencing is probably brought on by the discharge of blood from the rectum or anus which is mixed with the stools. In such a situation it would be highly advisable to seek expert medical attention in order to treat the condition responsible for causing the foul smelling stools.
