Water retention is one of those conditions that may not seem like they are very harmful especially because there is no pain involved but water retention is an indication of greater problems in the body that can be easily rectified. One of the most noticeable issues from your description of your lifestyle is that you seem to be stuck in a sitting position for most of the day. This can definitely cause problems including the water retention that you might have.

Get rid of water retention:

Water retention is basically the retention of fluid in the load bearing joints. Gravity plays a prominent role in this condition. In a normal situation, the heart pumps blood into the extremities like the hands and legs. For most active people, this is not a problem because the circulatory system and the capillaries in the legs are strong enough to withstand the pressure and can pump the same volume of blood back up the legs into the heart. When this system is disturbed in some way because of poor circulation, the capillaries are too weak to take the load and fluids start to accumulate in the tissues. This is what causes the edema and swelling – purely because the capillaries and vessels area not strong enough to pump fluid back. Obesity and high blood pressure caused by a high salt intake are some of the main reasons that this condition can be aggravated further. This can have far-reaching ramifications for the lymphatic system as well since the lymph nodes sometimes act as the overflow reservoirs of the body. An edema in the lymphatic nodes will cause lymphoedema. Another reason for water retention can also be a protein deficient diet. Protein attracts water and a reduced amount of protein in the blood will cause an accumulation of water in the tissues that cannot be reabsorbed by the blood.

Remedies For Water retention:

Rectifying this condition is very simple. First of all, you have to start exercising and breaking the monotony of sedentary work. This is a simple task that can be achieved by walking around for a few minutes during long work hours. The objective is to get the circulatory system moving. A high salt and sodium-based diet should also be avoided as this increases the density of blood. A high blood density places more stress on the heart. To avoid this, cut back on your daily salt  intake especially snacks and fried foods. Finally, consuming coffee during your workday will also help, as coffee is a diuretic.
