What Causes Lung Lesions
A lung lesion is a condition which could either indicate that there is a cystic formation in the lung or that the lesion is a result of a tuberculosis infection. A lesion by itself is simply a damaged piece of tissue and is sometimes an intermediate state before complete healing; however, it can also be permanent. Cystic formations in the lung or pulmonary sequestration are a condition that rarely occurs in adults and usually occurs in people before the age of 20. This problem would require surgery to correct and specifically the excision of the extra tissue. In a pulmonary sequestration, a piece of tissue near the lung takes the form of lung tissue, but is not connected to the lung tissue and does not aid in respiration. It becomes a bacterial reservoir and can end up causing a lot of problems in respiration, which is why the removal of the abnormal growth becomes imperative. Patients that undergo this kind of operation usually do not have to suffer from any kind of impaired lung function.
In tuberculosis, the case is quite different. Tuberculosis is a pathogenic infection of the lungs, which results in the destruction of lung tissue by the necrotizing bacteria in the lungs. The lesions that form in the lungs are caused by an initial granuloma forming in a patch of the lung tissue. A granuloma is a ball of immune cells around some kind of foreign body. It occurs because the body has identified the foreign body but is not able to expel it. In especially virulent bacterial strains, the granuloma can result in necrotized tissue and also a calcification of that tissue with a cheese like appearance under the microscope. This is because of mineral deposits over the necrotized tissue. The condition is not completely safe, as this is could be a place where bacteria still exist and can cause another tubercular flare up in the body.
There is no specific treatment that you can undertake to specifically treat a lesion in the lung. The best thing that you can do is ensure that your system is bacteria free by taking lots of garlic along with the antibiotics that you take. Steam inhalations with tea tree oil may also prove beneficial in treating this condition. Since the tissue healing is an important part of getting better, increase your intake of beta carotene by eating lots of carrots and leafy green vegetables.
