Pigmentation of the lips could be caused due to a large number of reasons, the most common one being sun exposure. Just as melanin determines the color of our skin, it is responsible for determining the color of our lips as well. The skin on our lips is much thinner and is delicate as compared to other parts of the body. As a result of which the pigmentation in this particular area is easily noticeable.
Remedies For Black And White Spots
Here are a few home remedies that can help in restoring the natural color of your lips. Lemon juice acts as a natural bleaching agent and hence is highly recommended for this particular condition. It has a very high acidic content and will restore color by peeling the upper layers of the skin. A mixture made from 4-5 drops each of lemon juice and honey should be applied onto the lips several times a day. Let the application stay on for 10-15 minutes, after which you can rinse it off with cold water. Lemon juice when mixed with milk can also be used as a topical application to get rid of these spots. Plain honey when applied to your lips, acts as an effective moisturizer that will help in keeping your lips hydrated. Cucumber juice has also been proved to be beneficial for this particular condition. Blend one cucumber into a thick paste and then extract the juice. Place this in the refrigerator to cool and then apply a generous layer on your lips. This should be done 4-5 times a day, till you begin to notice visible results.
Mix together, lime juice, gram flour, honey and yogurt to make a thick paste. Apply this on your lips and rinse it off after 30 minutes. Mix together a teaspoon of juice that has been extracted from rose petals with 3-4 drops of glycerin. This should be applied onto the lips at bedtime. It will also help in lightening them. You could apply a little sun screen on your lips before stepping out into the sun; this will protect them for the harmful UV rays. A healthy diet also plays an important role in this kind of a problem. Eat plenty of green leafed vegetables and fresh fruits. Make sure that your body is well hydrated by consuming a minimum of 8-10 glasses of water daily. Avoid caffeine, cigarettes and spicy food. Consuming foods that contain vitamin B will also help.
