Causes For Infection In Lungs

A bacterial lung infection can be caused for various reasons, the primary being smoking, a stuffy atmosphere or pollution, and some medications. In some cases, an infection can be brought on by changes in the weather and environment, by chronic obstructive lung diseases, or due to hereditary factors. The infection leads to weak lungs due to the presence of excessive bacteria in them. This condition is also known as pneumonia in medical terms, and must not be treated at home. Unless it is a very mild infection, a doctor must be consulted as antibiotics may be required and hospitalization in some cases. If ignored, the condition may worsen beyond control; hence, utmost care must be taken.

Home Treatment For Mild Lung Infections

There are a few home remedies to take care of mild lung infections, starting with keeping your body warm. This will also help in breaking a fever if you have one. Tea made with spices will warm up the system from within. You can make the tea with 2 cups of water and 4 cardamoms, half-inch pieces of cinnamon and ginger, 4 cloves, 3 cloves of garlic and a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds. This must be boiled till it is halved. For best results, you can have this tea comfortably hot and 3 times a day. Garlic has been known for its antiseptic properties and you can swallow a roughly smashed clove of garlic with hot water each night. In a cup of warm milk, mix half a teaspoon of turmeric powder and drink it twice a day for a fortnight. This will control the cough that is usually caused by a bacterial lung infection. You can also add a teaspoon of honey to an infusion made from 1 teaspoon each of sesame seeds and linseed along with a pinch of salt, and have it at night till you start feeling better and the symptoms reduce. For another remedy, mix half a teaspoon of ginger powder, cloves and pepper and have it three times a day. You can also add fresh ginger, basil leaves and black pepper in equal quantities to a cup of water and boil till it is half its original quantity. You can have this infusion 3 to 4 times a day. Maintain hygiene by wearing clean clothes and change the bed linen every 2 or 3 days.

A few ways to prevent lung infections are to avoid smoking, staying away from pollution, dust and dander, and to exercise regularly to increase immunity. Give up smoking completely as chances of getting a lung infection increase with smoking. Consult a doctor if your condition does not improve in 2-3 days.
