Home Remedies For Infant Congestions
Basically, you would have to treat the said infant very carefully if she has managed to get a congested chest or congested sinuses. It is completely and totally inadvisable to give a baby medication, so you would have to rely on the stuff found in your kitchen to help out. The most effective thing you can do for the infant is to give them a good steam. The best way to do this is to fill a hot tub with steaming water, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil in it and sit in the water with the infant held in your arms. At no cost can you insert the baby in hot water, otherwise the delicate skin of the baby may get scalded. While the baby inhales vapors of eucalyptus and steam, the congestion will loosen up on its own. Keep in mind that in order to expel the mucus, babies generally tend to vomit, do not be overly alarmed or worried about this. Vomiting or having greenish colored stools is completely normal when babies have a bad case of congestion. It is also indicative that they are in the process of healing. The other thing you can do is to put a single drop of eucalyptus oil on a cotton ball or a piece of cloth and leave this in the baby’s crib or cradle. Make sure it is not close enough to the baby to be touching it. This will work very well in loosening a congested chest as well.
Try keeping the baby upright as much as possible if it is fretful and having trouble with sleeping or coughing. This will help the baby to sleep peacefully. You can also use a warm compress on the baby’s chest. Heat an iron to its lowest setting, and iron a piece of cloth or a towel with it. Place this on the baby’s chest over the baby’s clothes. Make sure you do not place a freshly ironed garment on the baby’s bare chest. This could cause serious burn marks. Repeat this as often as you can during the day. It will help to reduce congestion. You can also heat a few cloves on a skillet and once they are burnt fully, make the baby inhale their vapors. Once they are burnt, they will turn white and start emitting smoke. This smoke will be extremely good for the baby to inhale from a minimum distance of 2 feet.
