How To Get Rid of Black Eye: Black Eye Treatment Using Simple Home Remedy

Remedy for black eye bruises: How to get rid of the bruises from a black eye quicker?

Usually, a black eye does not require any treatment – in spite of its appearance, it is usually only a minor injury that will heal by itself. Technically, a black eye is a hematoma – the pooling of blood outside the blood vessels. This is essentially internal bleeding, but not all internal bleeding is serious. A black eye, medically known as a periorbital hematoma, simply involves the pooling of blood in the tissues around the eye, as a result of some trauma that has damaged the blood vessels in this area. The actual area that is covered by the black eye depends on the blow received. The typical black eye covers the area below the eye. Sometimes however, the black bruise may extend to the eyebrow. This of course is no indication of the seriousness of the injury.

Treatment for a black eye is only symptomatic, as there is no way to get rid of the black eye in a hurry. Unless the skin is broken, there is usually no scarring either. The best relief from the pain can be obtained by using an ice pack. To some extent, this will also reduce the inflammation, and thus the severity of the black eye. Simply put a few cubes of ice in a plastic bag (preferable a re-sealable plastic bag), and hold it against your eye for a few minutes. If this is uncomfortable or painful, you can use a soft, clean cloth instead, after dipping it in cold water. You can also wrap the ice in the cloth, instead of in plastic. Ensure that the plastic or the cloth is clean however, as there may be some broken skin, which will allow bacteria to enter and cause an infection. This is another reason why you should avoid any traditional remedies such as putting a cold raw steak on your eye. Uncooked meat often has bacteria on it, and these too could cause an infection, thus complicating your black eye.

In the meantime, other precautions might also be necessary, such as avoiding straining your eyes or avoiding blowing your nose. Such activities might cause more pain, and could also aggravate the swelling.

You should remember however, that a black eye might only be one of the injuries that you have suffered from a blow. There could be more serious internal bleeding or even damage to your eyes – so if you suffer from symptoms such as blurred vision, headaches, or dizziness, you should consult a doctor immediately.
