How to remove tan and get fair complexion ?

Home Remedies For Glowing Skin

The body cells produce a protective pigment called melanin which protects the skin from the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun. Melanin is produced by cells called melanocytes and is brown in color. This is what causes the darkening of the skin. The ultraviolet radiation on the skin leads to an oxidation process involving melanin. As such melanin works as a natural sunscreen and also contributes vitamin D to the body. Those with darker skin are more inclined to tanning than people with fair skin – who burn more easily instead. UVA radiation from the sun rays leads to the formation of a skin tan and UVB radiation causes the skin to produce a larger quantity of melanin. The tan slowly starts to disappear as the newer layers of the skin are exposed.

Vitamin C has natural bleaching properties and as such is effective in getting rid of a tan. Another home remedy for tan removal is to cut an onion and extract the juice from the pieces. Add a few drops of lemon juice to this and apply this on the tanned skin. This will serve to exfoliate the dead skin cells. Vitamin E is very good for ensuring healthy and glowing skin and must be included in the diet.

You may also make a face pack of lime juice, cucumber juice and rose water and apply it on your face daily for a week. Honey may also be added to this for better results. Turmeric powder and a couple of drops of lime juice may be added to milk and applied to the tanned areas of your skin. Application of butter milk is a well known home remedy for lightening the complexion. A paste of gram flour, lemon juice and curd should be applied on the darkened areas of the skin on a regular basis. Coconut water or pulp is good for the complexion and helps to make the skin softer and smoother. A mixture of almond oil, sesame oil and olive oil may be applied on the tanned areas of the face to effectively reduce the tan. Juice of holy basil leaves mixed with extract of orange peel helps to enhance the complexion. The Pulp of a raw papaya applied on the skin gives the complexion a smooth texture. A face mask consisting of potato juice and fuller’s earth can be applied on the face regularly. Potatoes are rich in vitamin C and as such work well to treat skin blemishes.  Boiled cabbage leaves may be mashed into a pulp and applied over the face. This is a very good remedy for treating tanned skin.
