Sty Eye Symptoms

A sty in the eye is usually an infection that happens around the outside edge of the eye lid. It usually occurs around an eyelash. The sty will usually go away on its own in about 10-14 days. To ease the symptoms of a sty you can use one of several home remedies.

For the inflammation, use a cloth which has been wet with water as hot as you can stand it.  Repeat several times a day. This will help the swelling to go down.

There are several different ways that you can draw the puss out of the sty and make it come to a head. This is your goal; once the sty comes to a head it will rupture then go away.
Some ways to accomplish this, you can try any one of these:

Home Remedies For Stye

  • Folklore says that you can rub a gold ring on it several times a day and the sty will go away.
  • Use a wet tea bag. Leave on the site for about ten to fifteen minutes. Repeat as needed.
  • Pull the lash out, carefully, and then apply salt (sea salt or kosher will work fine). The salt will help dry it out.
  • Carefully apply cayenne extract with a cotton swab.
  • Carefully apply strawberry leaf tea with a cotton swab.
  • Castor oil up to three times a day rubbed on the lash line.
  • Dilute clove spice in water and rub on the sty.
  • Make a poultice from grated potato and place on the sty overnight.
  • For a great eyewash, boil a teaspoon of coriander seeds in a cup of water, cool. Use three to four times a day to flush out the eye.
  • Make a mixture of turmeric powder and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil and reduce to about half. Strain until all granules are removed. Use as an eye drop two to three times a day.

No matter which remedy you choose, you need to make sure that you keep the area as clean as possible. The sty is like a pimple, but resist the urge to pop it. Popping a sty can cause damage and/or spread the infection. You must allow the sty to come to a head and pop on its own. Once the head has popped you can use an antibiotic ointment to help the infection go away and stay away.
