Home Remedies For Smashed Finger End
Slamming your finger in a door is a relatively common occurrence. The resulting injuries could range from minor wounding due to cuts and scrapes or major damage to the ligaments and the bones. A finger injury, though common, should not be taken lightly. Treatment should be meted out very carefully so that the finger does not get deformed or damaged permanently.
A cut could seem very small. However, the simple cut on your finger could have lacerated nerves or blood vessels. If the cut has damaged any tendons, there are good chances that the finger could get deformed.
Usually in this sort of an injury, it is the finger nail that gets damaged. There is injury to the nail bed and if the blow is forceful, the bone may be damaged too. The fingers have three small bones called phalanges. The three bones are not joined together with any sockets. They are simply held firm by the delicate tendons. If there is a fracture in the phalanges, usually it will be isolated. However, damage to the tendons or ligaments could also be associated with this.
Dislocations are often associated with the fingers. Since there is no firm joint in the fingers, the bones often lose their alignment after even a slight injury. A heavier blow might result in a severe dislocation which causes further damage to the muscles and the ligaments. The ligaments keep getting damaged till the bone is put back into its place.
Your finger could have also suffered a sprain due to the tearing of the ligaments. All these injuries are very painful and since we use our fingers for almost everything that we do, even a slight injury that causes pain can affect us.
It is important to treat your finger as soon as the injury occurs. You can apply some ice on the injury for about fifteen minutes to reduce the pain, stem the flow of blood and prevent inflammation. However, if the wound is deep or the bruising extensive, it is best to see a doctor right away.
If your finger is swollen, try to move it around a bit. If there is excruciating pain, it is possible that you have damaged your bone. See a doctor immediately so that your finger can be set with a cast. If you are able to move your finger, but there is considerable swelling, it is best to use topical anti-inflammatory creams that reduce the swelling and the pain.
