Pimple in Ear

A pimple in the ear is a very common occurrence but children are more prone to this type of infection than adults. One of the causes of a pimple in the ear (for children) is that children use their fingernails to scratch the inside part of the ear. The fingernails are usually not clean and therefore the ear gets infected and this infection manifests itself in the form of a pimple. There are several home remedies that can be used for treatment of this pimple in the ear. However, do check with your doctor before attempting any of them.

A pimple on the ear or any other infection in the tissue which lines the external canal of the ear will cause severe pain, swelling, inflammation and even fever. It is advisable to take the person to a doctor for prompt medical attention. Do not try to squeeze the pimple in an attempt to make it burst. This practice will only worsen the infection and make the recovery time even longer. The pus inside a pimple can cause a sharp pain in the ear as well.

How does one get rid of pimples in the ear canal? Such pimples can be painful and uncomfortable. If the pimples are due to acne, then you will need to contact a dermatologist for advice on getting rid of them. If the pimples are due to mild or moderate acne, then you can apply a topical cream. Remember that it will take about 6-8 weeks for results to show and even up to six months for the pimples in your ear to disappear completely. Do not ever try to pop the pimple by using a hair pin. This is not the correct method and will only lead to more problems and you could even damage your ear.

The pimple or boil in the ear canal usually resolves itself within a few days. Avoid scratching or bursting the pimple during this time. No definite reason or cause has been found for the occurrence of boils in the ear.

There are several home remedies available for boils in the ear canal. These include cutting a piece of onion and placing it near your ear, soaking a flannel cloth in hot water and holding it against the ear may help to relieve the pain. Another remedy is to use a paste made out of cornmeal and water. Apply it as a poultice. This remedy should only be tried on boils that are on the outer ear. An onion is recommended as it has antibacterial properties.

It is essential to treat boils that occur in the inner ear. If left untreated, such boils can spread or become infected. Causes for boils inside the ear include: -

• Plugged sweat glands
• Ingrown hair
• Any break in the skin which can develop into an abscess.
• Due to any foreign material that gets lodged in the skin.

Even though pimples usually erupt on the face, neck or back, it does not mean they will occur only externally when it concerns the ear. It often erupts right into the canal causing a lot of pain to the child. Usually, due to the formation of ear wax or an ear infection, the child scratches his ears with his finger nails causing irritation to the skin. Since the fingernails are dirty, scratching causes irritation and infection leading to a boil or pimple in the ear. When a boil erupts, the surrounding skin becomes red and tender. The eruption then gets infected and filled with pus. This causes pain to the sufferer too. The pain subsides when the boil or the pimple drains also making the swelling to reduce. You need to ensure that your niece does not scratch on the boil or burst it as it can lead to an infection. You must also keep her ear clean so that there is no infection if the pimple bursts.

Home Remedies For Pimples In Ear

You can cleanse your niece’s ear by mixing boiled water while it’s still warm and hydrogen peroxide in equal amounts. Let the solution stay for about five minutes in the ear after instilling it and then ask her to drain the water out by turning her head over. This will be beneficial in getting rid of the wax, which is the main cause of pimples. After the liquid is drained, you can mix 5 drops of olive oil and one drop of margosa oil and instill three drops of this mixture in her ear. Margosa has medicinal properties that help in healing the pimple thus getting relief from the pain. You can also take two teaspoons of mustard oil and add half a teaspoon of carom seeds and two cloves of garlic. Heat the oil till the garlic turns red. Strain the oil and set it aside to cool. Use this as eardrops. Another way of alleviating pain caused by the pimple would be placing a warm washcloth over the child’s ear. Don’t apply too much pressure on the ear. This will bring the pus to the surface thus bursting the boil. Clean the ear with an ear bud and apply turmeric powder to it. To prevent this from happening again, make sure that there ear wax does not accumulate in your niece’s ear again.
