Ear Infection and Pain Behind Ear Drum

Water logging in the ears can be quite irritating. It not only changes the balance of in the ears but also exerts pressure behind the ear drum. Besides feeling a pressure in your ear canal, you may also have the constant feeling of your ear being clogged. It may also eventually lead to infection and hearing impairment.

It might be very tempting to try to remove the water. If the water has not really penetrated very deep, it can easily come out by just sleeping or lying down on your side. However, if the amount of water that has got into your ear is excessive, it might not get drained out that easily. You can try some home remedies to give you immediate relief. However, if you don’t see much improvement, there are good chances that you will have to see an ear specialist.

The water may have gone into the canal and settled there. Attempts to get the water out might just aggravate the situation further and cause you a lot of pain. If the logging has been there for more than seven days, the water can actually harm your ear canal and the delicate organ.

A physician will be able to quickly rid you of your problem. However, if you are in the habit of frolicking in the water frequently or if you experience the water logging in your ear quite often, perhaps it might not be feasible to go to the doctor at every instance. Simply tilt your head to one side and let the water run out. You may also try hopping around on one leg. The sudden movements and the jerks cause the water to dislodge and get drained out. It might look and seem funny to you at that time, but in the long run, you will realize that this simple exercise saves you from a lot of discomfort.

Clogged Ear Remedy

If you clean your ears carefully after every bath and make this a regime, the chances of you suffering form clogged ears will be reduced. You don’t have to follow an elaborate routine. Simply take your towel and with one corner, clean the outer ear thoroughly. Then wedge the corner of the towel into the ear hole and gently move it around to absorb all the excess water.

Applying a little bit of internal pressure can also help cure clogged ears. Just tilt your head to one side and yawn. The yawn will increase the internal pressure behind the ear and will cause the water to get dislodged. Any water trapped inside will immediately get drained out.

If nothing else works, mix alcohol and vinegar in equal quantities to make a weak solution. Use a dropper to put some drops into your ear. This will immediately dry out the water. If there is any infection, the alcohol and the vinegar will help cure that too.
