Dental Abscess And Root Canal Treatment – Alternate Remedies For Toothache

Home Remedies For Dental Abscess Pain

Dental abscess, or root infection, is a collection of pus around the teeth caused by bacterial infection. These bacteria get collected in the soft pulp of the teeth, turn into an abscess and cause swelling and pain in the gums, jaws, mouth and throat as well. This infection is a result of poor dental hygiene, especially if one leaves tooth decay untreated for a long time. An unsuccessful root canal or dental diseases are also responsible for an abscess. Dental abscesses should be treated as quickly as possible to prevent more serious dental diseases. To prevent suffering from dental abscess, good dental hygiene needs to be maintained at all times. Brushing teeth twice every day averts several kinds of dental disorders. It’s very necessary to brush your teeth before going to bed. Also, sweet and sugary eatables should be avoided and the mouth should be rinsed well after eating anything. Flossing your teeth regularly is also important for dental hygiene. It is always very beneficial to visit a dentist at least once a year, preferably twice a year.

The toothache and inflammation of gums caused by a dental abscess can be quite unbearable. If you are suffering from these, you must avoid rubbing or massaging the gums, as it will aggravate the pain instead of alleviating it. If you have pain and swelling, you must drink about two glasses of water every 30 minutes to help reduce the pain. The body absorbs the water and brings relief. You can also place an ice cube or an ice pack on the affected part to reduce inflammation and pain. Clove oil also works well in dealing with pain and swelling. Take a small amount of oil on a cotton swab and place it on the tooth. Wash your mouth after you have thrown the cotton out. Green tea is also a good remedy for tooth abscess. Green tea is a natural anti-inflammatory agent that can be had in the morning to treat the infection. You can have it at night again, in decaffeinated form though. Make sure that you do not have it when very hot, as it will hurt your mouth even more. Tea tree oil is one product that is very important for the sufferers of tooth abscess. It has strong natural antibiotic properties, penetrates easily through the gums right to the roots of the teeth.  Mix a couple of drops of tea tree oil with water and rinse your mouth with it.
