Smoking And Dark Lips
Understanding the cause of the darkening of the lips is probably the most important step of the treatment. In today’s world, where so much importance is given to a person’s aesthetic appeal, it is surprising how little care we actually take care of our lips. You will find people buying a large number of hair and face creams, but the lips are usually nothing more than an afterthought. Unless the lips have a naturally dark coloration, which would normally be the case if a person is dark skinned, it may seem rather odd and noticeable. Apart from smoking, some other factors that cause a darkening of the lips include excessive consumption of tea or coffee, an allergic reaction to the lipstick that you use or even an excessive application of lipstick. Since the lips are made up of the same cells as that of the skin, they are equally prone to sun damage. If exposed to the sun for too long, the melanocytes (the pigment creating cells in the body) will create a darker colored pigmentation in order to protect the skin against the harmful effects of ultra violet rays in sunlight, including skin cancer and skin cell augmentation.
Natural Remedies For Natural Lips
The first, and most significant, step in treatment would be to quit smoking immediately. While this would not return your lips to their natural color, it would control the condition and prevent it from getting any worse. Any treatments used while you continue to smoke are likely to be nothing more than a waste of time. Once you have successfully quit smoking, you should try regularly applying some natural bleach such as lime juice or apple cider vinegar over your lips. You could also try creating a paste of banana and apply it regularly over the lips; however, while this option is known to be effective, it has been known to take its time. Regular exfoliation of the lips will go a long way into lightening the lip color as it will remove any dead skin cells that may be present on the upper layers of the skin. You can do this with the help of a toothbrush, but remember to scrub it gently or you may damage the very delicate skin of the lips. The use of yogurt is another very effective treatment option and the regular application of the unflavored variety will return the lip color to normalcy. For best results, you should try using either the yogurt treatment option or the banana paste option in the night just before retiring to bed. Allow the paste to remain on your lips over the course of the night for faster results.
