Home Remedies For Dark Inner Thighs

Inner thigh discoloration, more commonly known as a dark inner thigh is a common problem that affects people of all ages across the globe. Several men and women, face the problem of dark skin between thighs and legs, which usually occurs due to chaffing or the friction that takes place between the legs and inner thighs, while walking. It has also been seen that people who are overweight tend to have darker skin between the legs and thighs. Dark inner thighs are usually not visible most of the time, but they can lead to a lot of embarrassment on certain occasions, like when a person is at the beach, or is about to go swimming. There are times when the friction could lead to a skin abrasion, which is not only a source of embarrassment, but can also be very painful

There are several factors apart from friction and obesity that could cause the skin on the thighs and legs to darken. The skin usually gets darker, when the level of melanin increases in a particular area. Excessive exposure to sunlight is one of the main causes of the skin darkening. However, in mist people this may not be the factor that leads to dark thighs and especially dark inner thighs. Wearing tight clothes, damp clothes or synthetic clothes could cause the skin on the thighs to darken. There are several women who notice their skin getting darker in some areas, especially the thighs, due to hormonal imbalances. The consumption of certain medication could also lead to this problem in several women.

How to lighten dark inner thighs?

Nobody likes to live with skin that looks discolored and therefore, there are many women who use various skin lightening products, like bleach, whitening cream or fairness lotion. However, most commercial skin care products are very expensive and cannot be afforded by many. In addition to that, since the results may vary, some of them may not even bring about the desired results. Finally, some of these commercial products contain chemicals that are so harsh, that prolonged use of such products could harm the skin, causing it to swell, break out into a rash, redden or even get darker. Therefore, many women are now exploring the options of using home remedies for dark inner thighs. Women who have claimed to have lightened their skin on the thighs claim home remedies yield results that are just as good as commercial products, if used correctly, without most of the adverse side effects.

However, before any dark inner thighs remedy is used, it is important to avoid the factors that can lead to a dark inner thigh. This means that tight or moist clothing and underwear should be strictly avoided. Instead it is best to wear loose cotton clothing, or clothes made of other material, which can absorb the perspiration completely. Some women (and men) also apply talcum powder to the thighs, so that the sweat gets absorbed and the chaffing problem reduces. Others prefer to clean the area thoroughly with a mild cleanser to get rid of the bacteria and viral microbes; thereafter, calendula oil is used to moisturize the skin and keep it hydrated during activities like walking, running, exercising and so on. Another natural way to keep the body hydrated is by drinking at least 10 glasses of water throughout the day. People who are overweight should try and reach their normal weight goal as soon as possible, which will benefit not just dark inner thighs skin, but the overall health. If women are on birth control pills, which generally causes the skin to darken, then it may be best to consult a doctor for alternatives instead.

Taking some of the measures mentioned above should bring about some lightening in the color of dark inner thigh skin in a natural way. However, if the skin does not lighten to the extent that is desired, then there are several other options on how to lighten skin between thighs. There are many fruits, vegetables and other ingredients that can be easily found in most kitchens, which lighten the skin without leading to any severe side effects. Given below are some of the most commonly used and effective home remedies that can help lighten dark inner thighs in men and women:

  • Lemon is regarded as a natural bleaching ingredient, but it is acidic in nature. To reverse the drying effect of lemon, some olive oil should be mixed with fresh lemon juice, before the solution is massaged gently on the skin, for around 3 to 4 minutes. This mixture needs to be left on the skin for at least an hour, before it is washed off.
  • Potatoes have bleaching properties too and therefore, chilled potato slices should be applied on the thighs, before washing the area off with water.
  • Mix one teaspoon each, of honey, lemon juice and milk powder and then add half a teaspoon of almond oil to it. Apply this mixture to the thighs or other darkened areas of the skin, to remove the tan.
  • Mix some oatmeal with yogurt to make a paste, which needs to be applied in a thick layer on to the skin. Leave it on for about an hour, or at least until the paste dries up completely, before rinsing the skin with cool water. Some lemon juice can also be added to this mixture.

A certain skin condition, known as Acanthosis Nigricans is characterized by dark marks or discolored skin on the armpits, neck and inner thighs. Hence, if the skin does not get lighter even after using the home remedies mentioned above, it may be best to consult a doctor or a dermatologist, to rule out the possibility of this condition. Pregnancy is one stage where a woman tends to gain a lot of weight and therefore, many women experience the problem of dark inner thighs during pregnancy. This is normal and the skin should regain its original tone after the woman loses the excess weight. Pregnant women and nursing mothers should consult their doctors before using any products or even home remedies for dark inner thighs.

Discoloration on the inner thighs is caused by the constant rubbing of the thighs against each other while walking or running, or because of the friction between your skin and your clothes. This friction also causes skin abrasion, which can be quite painful besides being embarrassing on occasions like swimming. If a person is overweight or obese, the chances of chafing are greater. So, it’s important to lose the extra weight in order to prevent constant chafing. Also, wearing tight clothes and especially tight undergarments should be avoided. It’s also preferable to wear cotton undergarments instead of synthetic ones. Make sure you don’t wear wet clothes or underclothing, as that causes abrasion as well. Also, drink about 10 glasses of water every day, and have a balanced diet with enough green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits and vegetables. These are beneficial for healthy skin. Vitamin E is an important nutrient for an even texture of the skin. You can get the required amount of Vitamin E from green leafy vegetables.

Just like the skin on any part of the body, the skin on inner thighs can also be restored to the original tone, or at least make a couple of shades lighter with home remedies. Firstly, make it a habit to thoroughly clean and moisturize the area every day. This will prevent roughness and give your skin an even and smooth tone. You can also scrub your inner thighs with an apricot scrub to rejuvenate them. One of the most effective ways to lighten the skin is rubbing lemon or applying fresh lemon juice on the dark areas. Let it stay for about 20 minutes and then wash it off. Lemon has natural bleaching agents that effectively lighten skin. Another good remedy is mixing yogurt and lime juice and applying a thick layer of this on the affected areas. Keep it on for about 20 minutes and then wash off with water and a mild herbal soap. You can mix oatmeal and yogurt and apply this on your skin. You can also apply aloe vera gel or break Vitamin E capsules and apply it directly on the inner thighs. Leave it on overnight and wash it off the next morning. Please note that these remedies are only for external use. You should also try to restrict your movement and relax in one place as much as possible when the area is sore. If these remedies do not help you, see a skin specialist or a doctor for more help.
