Home remedies for stomach ache: what can u do for a child with a stomach ache?
There are many ailments of the stomach that could cause a stomach ache but most of these can be eliminated because the patient in question is a child. Children, depending on their age are in a unique situation. Most of their organs and systems are still developing and more importantly they are still developing their immune systems. Until full immunity is reached and the systems including the endocrine system is fully developed bouts like stomach ache can happen and are common.
One cause could be indigestion. This is a situation that occurs if acids of the stomach reach high levels and the digestion then malfunctions. The typical reason that this would happen in a child is an improper diet with foods that cause a jump in acid production and tend to pass through the digestive system too soon. Junk foods are a typical culprit. The remedy for this is antacids; in this case, sucralfate is advisable because it is more palatable for children. This is no cure however and prolonged use should be avoided in favor of a diet that is rich in vegetables and fiber. Stomach aches could also be caused by constipation in the intestinal duct. The use of a laxative would be useful here and one of the oldest remedies for constipation is the use of milk of magnesia. Again, constipation is a sign of a lowered water intake and incorrect diet. It can also be a situation wherein the bacterial flora of the intestines is imbalanced. The most common and useful bacteria that resides in the human intestines are derived from milk and probiotic foods. Probiotic food is made with a culture of live bacteria in it that will eventually reach the gut and start performing many beneficial roles. Probiotic yoghurt is common in most stores and should be stocked up.
Herbs used should also be used from a preventive stand point. If the child has a feeling of fullness and is eating less than normal, before the next meal a preparation that contains ginger would be beneficial. Bitter lemon preparations or ginger ale is a good settler of the stomach. If this can be laced with clove extract then this would stimulate acid production and a higher intake of food is an eventuality. Introduce the child to more ranges of spice-laden foods as there are multiple benefits from these for the digestive and other systems. Exercise for the child is also important as movement of the body also translates to a loosening up of the intestines and circulation improves food uptake.
