While eating hot foods I have burnt the roof of my mouth, it really red and hurts badly, any remedies for it?
It’s quite common to burn one’s mouth while eating or drinking something very hot and putting an ice cube in the mouth immediately after the burn is the right thing to do. However, you shouldn’t chew it but press it against the roof of your mouth with the help of your tongue. Also, you will need to be patient for the injury to heal. It takes up to a week for the burnt part to be fine again. Eating ice just once will probably not give you relief. You need to do it a few times a day and gargle with cold water every two hours. Five minutes after the ice treatment, mix ½ teaspoon salt in a glass of water and gargle with it. This will speed up the healing process. Also, till the burn gets better, consume as many cold foods and beverages as possible, like ice creams, cold water, iced tea, and cold milk. Similarly, do not consume hot food or beverages like hot coffee and tea. Spicy and acidic foods also aggravate the irritation, so they should be avoided as well. Food with a sharp edge, like chips and toasts, should also be avoided since the burnt skin is already tender and hard foods could irritate it more. Eat soft foods like rice or mashed potatoes. Avoid using harsh oral hygiene products, as the chemicals in them could harm the skin. Do not touch your skin to the roof of your mouth as far as possible.
How To Sooth Burned Mouth
Some other products that could heal the burn are milk cream, honey and sugar. Simply apply a layer of thick milk cream on the affected area. Applying sugar would also be beneficial. Let the sugar dissolve itself. Or, you can take honey in your mouth and swish around like mouthwash. Instead of spitting out the honey, swallow it. The application of honey will cure the burn. Swishing buttermilk in your mouth also heals burns. Do not consume anything for a few hours after the honey or buttermilk. Chewing a sugar free chewing gum will also heal the injury. When the gum loses its sweetness, replace it with another piece. Vitamins help heal injuries faster, especially Vitamin B complex. Include Vitamin B and iron in your diet. Bananas and beetroot are rich in iron. You can also consume spinach soup, after cooling it down to room temperature. All these should heal the burn, as burns inside the mouth usually heal much faster than any other part.
